“We must be the change we wish to see in the world.” — Mohandas Gandhi
The goal of this web site is to discuss and help improve the quality of life of Alhambra residents. It started as a place to share information about the high speed rail system, the plans to cut through Alhambra and neighboring cities, and ensure that we are all informed about meetings and when reports are issued. That goal has since broadened to include other related aspects of quality of life. With regard to the high speed rail project, the goal is to analyze statements and information (or lack of information) made available by the Authority so our community may make informed decisions regarding our opposition or support of the high speed rail plan.
Dan Bednarski: My name is Dan Bednarski. In 2010 and 2011, I worked with other residents of Alhambra and the San Gabriel Valley to inform and organize our communities against the California High Speed Rail Authority’s plans to route its trains along the I-10 freeway.
My wife grew up in Alhambra and went to Alhambra schools from K-12. We temporarily moved back to Alhambra at the beginning of 2010. Even though we did not expect to stay long-term, we feel it important to get involved in the community and in sharing our concerns about issues confronting it. We cannot wait around for the world to change for us, and we can’t expect someone else to change the world on their own. Together, we must be that force of change.
Gisela Adams: Gisela has been a resident of Alhambra since December 1965. Together with her husband Bill, she raised a son who attended the Alhambra school system. The prospect of having our community destroyed by the high speed rail upset them greatly.
